Message with Meaning

Well despite the pup destroying the books on my shelf it wasn't a bad morning. After a fantastic service led by my pastor/supervisor/friend tried Mellow Mushroom with he, his family, and this girl Daisy. Probably the best pie i've had in quite a while.

Robb really is a great pastor and a great man. Despite his hectic schedule with his family and work he still finds time to prepare sermons that are amazingly uplifting and meaningful as well as acting as guide on my path to ministry. Today we started a series on Genesis called Vast: Finding God in Genesis. I was amazed that only two verses, 35 words total, could have such profound meaning to my life and where I am at in my life right now.

Things I learned from today's service:

1)It is important to remember that we are small compared to God's vastness and greatness. God, to me, is beyond definition or boundaries. We as humans, however, need definition and boundaries to be able to understand something. Our minds are not ready or equipped to understand just how big God is. We look at how big the earth is, then our solar system, then the universe....God is bigger and more grand than it all. Makes a human seem pretty insignificant in comparison. Feeling small in this infinite existence is important to remember because it humbles us. Humility is the first step on the path to God.

2)God creates in order to instill order into chaos. Our lives, like existence, are in chaos. There isn't a person on earth who has it completely together. God knows this and offers the solution, the cure. God will institute stability and order in your life if you are willing to admit your faults and open yourself by admitting your faults and your problems. Honesty is the second step on the path to God.

3)People require definition and containment for things bigger than themselves in order to understand them. Using the two steps previously mentioned we can take another step to God. That step is faith. Humility + Honesty = Faith. It is very simple and attainable for anyone willing to take the steps.

4)I often thougt of my life as a story, with many chapters, starring myself. Some chapters dark some light. This is not the case. My life is a story, but it is one of many stories in God's book, starring God. We are all supporting characters in this ongoing narrative called Existence. Our focus in our lives should not be "What do I need to do?" It should be "What does God want me to do?" This brings into question the very way we live our lives in our self-centered culture where everyone is out for themselves.

Who knew that 35 words could teach me so much about my existence and my place in the world? I can't wait for the next installment if Vast.
